The crown chakra can be activated through meditation, yoga exercises, and developing a sense of love for beauty and for life.
When the crown chakra opens, it brings attitudinal changes and a more positive outlook toward life. It helps a person develop a spiritual context for challenges and difficulties, and induces both gratitude and acceptance.
The rule of the ego, which is the part of us that divides, limits, and judges, no longer has dominion over the mind. Instead, there is compassion and a sense of oneness with life and an acceptance of one’s self.
Healing happens when the mind is loving, inclusive, embracing, and allowing. As the crown chakra opens we gain the awareness that, although reality may appear to be diverse in nature, it is ultimately undivided, whole, and benign.
Our higher mind learns to accept that we are loved, guided, and protected by a source higher and more powerful than ourselves and we are each here for a purpose.
Once we start living from and within the crown chakra we start to be thankful for our lives exactly as they are. We know – or are awakened to the awareness – that who we are is divine.
Whichever way we experience the divine, we accept that our lives are not in our hands alone. By surrendering our fears and burdens to a higher power we are able to cope better and more calmly with any pain, loss, or separation we may encounter.
When we begin the process of conversion – of accepting that our lives are divinely guided – we lighten up, become healthier and more resilient, and open up to new realms of possibilities for living as we would like.
The more we attune our awareness to the ultimate truth of a higher power, the freer we become to live in joy, harmony, and serenity.
Honoring the spirit permits us to experience gratitude for who we are and how life unfolds. We learn we are never alone and that we are guided, loved, and protected at all times.
Below is a practical exercise to let you review some of the harmful attitudes associated with the crown chakra. This exercise illustrates a way of reframing negative attitudes into more positive and life-affirming ones.
Negative attitudes: The most egotistical belief is that we are doing it all alone. This belief fortifies the ego and gives it license to exploit and manipulate. We thus fail to recognize a higher power than our limited self. This attitude fosters arrogance, false pride, and an over-inflated ego that lives under the pretense that it is invincible and unconquerable, concepts that are both untrue and unhealthy. It separates a person from contact with humanity and keeps the heart closed to love and healing.
Positive attitudes: Healthy crown chakra attitudes embrace a sense of gratitude for one’s life and humility for goodness received and experienced. When we realize God (whatever our idea of God, the divine, or universal energy may be), loves, protects, and guides us, we anchor our consciousness in a different reality based on faith. Our everyday, mundane life becomes infused with spirit and grace, and we let go of the small and petty irritations that cause us distress. Spiritual awareness deepens our life, giving it meaning and a sense of higher purpose.
